Celebrating 400 years of Japanese Artisan Design, the Guild of Artisans from the Japanese Villages of Arimatsu and Narumi have assembled the most complete in-depth view of their work in their natural habitat. The film makers followed them from workshop to workshop as they illustrated the traditional and modern processes of the ancient art of Japanese Shape-resist dyeing, or "Shibori".
Filmed entirely on location in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, along the Tokaido, and narrated by Yoshiko Iwamoto Wada, celebrated author and textile design scholar, with original music by Andrew Galli. The most in-depth filmwork done on Shibori available today. (DVD 155 mins)
