Liquid acid dyes and paints formulated especially for painting on silk fabrics. The silk dyes need to be set with steam but the silk paints are made permanent by heat setting with an iron.

Primer or anti-spread is used to treat fabric so that the flow of paint is inhibited. This allows free hand painting with fluid paints such as Deka Silk and Jacquard Dye-na-flow.
