Devorant paste is an exciting medium which dissolves away any cellulose content (eg cotton or viscose fibres) in fabric. It can be used to create cutwork embroidery using a non-cellulose thread such as silk or to create devore from velvet fabric. Velvet is composed of a silk backing with a viscose pile. The pile is eaten away while the silk weave remains intact.
